LEVEL 7: TEMPLE OF KARNAK (first time)

COURTYARD WITH OBELISK: Climb over the wall into the temple. Cross over the gap in the blocks on the other side to your right. The corner bug works here.

Then turn left, walk along the wall until it begins to slope, and line up a running jump to the hill to the right of the wall. Use Action to lower the height of the jump and minimize the damage.

Lara can circle the hills to the other side of the entrance, with a surrounding "lake of asphalt" beyond the hills (which are bounded by the End of Space, as per the usual Tomb Raider physics). The corner in the middle of the wall on the other side allows a crawl bug, but Lara slides off the top.

The corner to the right of the three doors allows a crawl bug from both faces. Start a few inches from the corner.

A crawl bug “works” at the back corner of the tall column to the right of the three doorways, but Lara is trapped inside the column.

THREE GOLDEN DOORWAYS: Back in the courtyard, all edges of the three doorways on the south wall allow a crawl bug except the right-most. Roll is required from the outer faces of the left doorway or Lara falls back.

The corner behind the middle doorway allows a crawl bug. Farther in, the corner by the low well permits the crawl bug, but only on the right face. The corner one square east of the previous one has the crawl bug on both faces.

The outside face of the crawlway corner permits the crawl bug to lift Lara out of the hole to secret #1.

HALLWAY LINED WITH COLUMNS: The outer face of the right corner of the square, gray door allows the crawl bug to trap Lara in the wall.

At the doorway surrounded by grating, crawling into the corner near the gray door and a couple of jumps send her to the start of the GREAT HYPOSTYLE HALL level. Can we skip all the stuff with the first canopic jar? No. But use the bug right after collecting that jar. This shortcut skips lowering the bowl to the long horns, but it appears between them anyway!

The bug doesn’t work if you open the door first.

The four columns around the pool trap Lara with the crawl bug on all 8 faces.

BUILDING WITH RED BANDS AROUND ROOFS: All of the column corners along the north side of the second courtyard that are under the walkways AND have both faces clear of piled-up sand exhibit crawl-corner bugs that let Lara bug up to the walkway. The face with long-legged bas-relief doesn’t permit the bug, however.

The two columns along the west wall with flat sand by all faces allow the crawl bug to send Lara to a crouching or standing position atop the wall. The sky there is so low that she must crouch to back off the ledge.

But one corner has no edge next to it. There, she can back off to the east, like the other two corners, but she hangs within the walkway (!?!), and immediately “teleports” partway into the edge of the original square, but it’s an edge that has an adjacent square of the wall top! When you release Action, she pops to a standing position, and is pinned there, whether turning, standing or crawling; but she can back off the edge again if you angle off the adjacent square slightly.

Lara can get to the lower roof/walkway in a different way. In the entrance to the second courtyard, pull up onto the sloping block to the right. Run forward to the tall pillar. At the left edge, use the corner bug to get on top of the pillar. Jump down to the wall on the other side. Lara can traverse right on the wall ahead to reach the same wall as shown two pictures above. Or turn left, and take a standing jump to land on blocks halfway to the walkway. Take another standing jump to the block at left, just in front of the walkway.

Before leaving the walkway, take a short excursion. At the far end of the walkway, use the corner bug at the edge to the right. Lara will appear at the top of the wall, in the shallow V, but embedded in the ledge from the knees down! Turn her, and she will pop up ONTO the ledge. From this position she can turn, but not walk. Have her crouch, then back off the ledge, holding Action to hang. Lara can traverse left, but not around the first corner. Traverse to the right, around the inside corner, and into the last two squares (the camera position rises).

Pull up to stand on the ledge (she couldn't before). To get down, hang, traverse back across the left two squares into the no-pullup area, and drop to the walkway.

ROOM WITH BOWL AND STATUES HOLDING LONG HORNS: Dropping through the hole using a safety-drop bug lands Lara in the water, saving the few percent damage from a normal safety drop.

If you skip the first visit (by using the trigger bug to bypass the closed door to the Great Hypostyle Hall), placing only the second canopic jar in its niche does not start the water from the horns, and Lara cannot walk on water. Lara possessed the first canopic jar and the bowl had been lowered when I tried. Place the first canopic jar to complete the conditions for walking on water. This works even when you skip lowering the bowl.

At the start of the last crawlspace before returning to the BUILDING WITH RED BANDS AROUND ROOFS, the corner allows the crawl bug to trap Lara in the wall.

LEVEL 8:
THE GREAT HYPOSTYLE HALL (first time) OUTDOOR AREA WITH TOPPLED BLOCKS: At the right corner of the entrance door, on the right face, a crawl bug lifts Lara to the wall top, but she slides off at once. Looking at the door from the area, the column to the right does the same. The two columns further right have fatal crawl bugs on each face of the two front corners.

As you enter the courtyard, use the corner bug on the pillar with the ornate top in the far left corner. Or use the crawl-corner bug on either face. Jump to the wall with the shallow V, to the right. Surprisingly, the ornate-topped pillars in the far right (from entrance) corner do not allow the corner bug. But they allow the crawl bug on all four faces.

Lara can then move to the roof of the DARK ROOM WITH UPPER LEVEL SUPPORTED BY SQUARE PILLARS, which is mostly invisible. The column on the north side traps Lara with a crawl bug at the left corner. Run left off the tongue of grayish material in front of that tower to land on the sand-colored ledge along the west side.

As a shortcut, you can jump with Action into the Middle Room of the HUGE AREA WITH THREE SEPARATE ROOMS, landing on the sloping block to the left, with about 15% damage. Then do all in the rooms, but no assassins appear! Probably this is because you haven't used the Hypostyle Hall Key to enter. Or safety drop from the V to the block outside the hall, for no damage.

DARK ROOM WITH UPPER LEVEL SUPPORTED BY SQUARE PILLARS: The inner left corner of the doorway permits crawl bugs at both faces to take Lara to the second level. The column corner nearest the door traps Lara via the crawl bug.

At the left end of the green platform at the entrance, the column corner traps Lara with a crawl bug. Both edges of the column’s west face permits the crawl bug to raise Lara to the top of a column a step above the invisible roof.

In line with the first row of columns, the corner below the sand-colored ledge lets Lara bug up to the ledge with the crawl bug.

In the second row of columns, at the far right corner of the irregular raised flooring, the right face of the column corner traps Lara with a crawl bug, while on the left face the crawl bug lifts her to the sloped top of the column, whence she falls at once. At the next column west, the right faces of both rear corners allow the crawl bug to put Lara onto the sloped column top; she slides off to the east.

The middle column of the last row (against the north wall) permits crawl-corner bugs from both faces of the right corner to send Lara to the roof.

In the northwest corner of the room, there are corners at each end of the border between the dark-gray floor and the sandy floor. Neither corner allows the crawl bug.

Lara can jump to the upper level from the highest corner of either of two blocks in the middle of the room. This lets her shoot at least one scorpion on the lower level from safety.

On the second level, the alcove on south wall east of the entrance permits the crawl bug to trap Lara in the wall at the east corner. Corners by the holes on the east wall support trapping via the crawl bug on both faces.

The two slant-topped columns under the east edge of the hole in the roof trap Lara after the crawl bug. The northern column only does so at the eastern face of the northeast corner. The other column does so at all four faces of the two eastern corners, although the southern face of the southeast corner lets Lara escape with Roll. Lara may need Jump to get on top after being trapped.

SMALL OPEN SPACE BETWEEN BUILDINGS: Lara gets trapped in the corner on the other side of the deep pit by using the crawl bug.

The corner of the crawlspace in the northwest corner traps Lara in the wall with the crawl bug.

Two corners near the slide to the SACRED LAKE put Lara in the next level via a trigger bug, but she can just walk onto the slide, so these trigger bugs are superfluous.

HUGE AREA WITH THREE SEPARATE ROOMS, UPPER AND LOWER LEVEL DOORWAYS: In the second room, both faces of both corners of both columns against the west wall allow crawl bugs that lift Lara from the ground to the top level.

The short column connected to the west wall by a walkway at the middle level allows crawl bugs on both faces of the corners with flat ground all around.

From the middle level along the west wall, the corner at the south end of the walkway allows a corner bug which lifts Lara through the top walkway.

On the top level, the column on the other side of the raisable section of walkway allows Lara to be trapped in the column if she tries a crawl bug on either face of both western corners.

Near the pillar with the brown sphere on top, the corner with uneven rock below both faces allows crawl corner bugs bilaterally, but Lara just falls off, even if Action is held.

In the third room, the left face of the left corner of the center door traps Lara in the wall when she tries a crawl bug.

I don’t see the need to throw the switch in the third room.

GLOWING PYRAMID AND ROTATING NEEDLES: The crawl-corner bug works on all corners of the central column, but Lara immediately slides off the glowing pyramid.

At the four columns around the center, corners which have a block or platform diagonally opposite allow Lara to be sucked into the column and trapped, on both faces.

In the rooms to the north, south and west, crawling into any corner which goes to the ceiling traps Lara  in the wall.

POOL WITH ELECTRIC OBELISKS: In the center of the east side, a corner bug lifts Lara through the shelf to land on it. She can get behind the electric obelisk.

The area was checked for crawl-corner bugs.
